Summer @ LINC - Learning How to Navigate Abbotsford
Newcomers waiting for LINC classes were able to participate in summer classes from July 4th to 27th. Instructors focused on teaching learners how to navigate and understand places in Canadian communities. At the Laurel St. location, learners were able to go out on walks and follow directions, getting to know downtown Abbotsford.
Newcomer LINC Class Partakes in Real-Life Practice
The 2022/2023 regular LINC classes ended in early June this year. A CLB 1/2 class was able to do some real-life practice ordering food and drinks at SippChai Café to end out their year.
Field Trip to the Powerhouse at Stave Falls
On March 8th, 85 LINC students from Abbotsford and their teachers hopped on 2 buses and made their way to Mission to visit the 100 year old Powerhouse at Stave Falls. Students were split into two groups to enjoy a guided tour of the Powerhouse.
Helping a Record Influx of New Canadians
Last year saw a record 431,465 immigrants coming to Canada, and in the Fraser Valley, Archway Community Services is playing a key role in welcoming newcomers into our communities. Through a variety of different programs, Archway helps newcomers learn English, find employment, and integrate into the community. One program, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC), had more than 500 students studying English, Canadian history and culture in 2022.
