Summer @ LINC - Learning How to Navigate Abbotsford
Newcomers waiting for LINC classes were able to participate in summer classes from July 4th to 27th. The learners were introduced to the LINC classroom for this month, practicing English with their classmates, on computers, and out in the community. Classes ran mornings and evenings 2-3 times a week.
Instructors focused on teaching learners how to navigate and understand places in Canadian communities. Lots of speaking and listening practice took place, with learners practicing asking for and giving directions. Learners were also able to practice everyday topics to introduce themselves and make small talk about what they did in their spare time.
At the Laurel St. location, learners were able to go out on walks and follow directions, getting to know downtown Abbotsford. They had a lot of fun learning about the shops, cafes, restaurants, bakeries and other places in the area. The weather was variable but the learners were happy to practice their English skills out in the community.
