Helping a Record Influx of New Canadians
Last year saw a record 431,465 immigrants coming to Canada, and in the Fraser Valley, Archway Community Services is playing a key role in welcoming newcomers into our communities. Through a variety of different programs, Archway helps newcomers learn English, find employment, and integrate into the community. One program, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC), had more than 500 students studying English, Canadian history and culture in 2022.
Hiking on Sumas (Semá:th) Mountain
Archway English students had a chance to explore Sumas Mountain in Abbotsford, BC during a recent field trip. Some of the students who came on the hike had never been hiking before in their lives, and they were excited to experience it for the first time.
LINC Students Participate in Neighborhood Cleanup
April is Community Cleanup Month here in Abbotsford and this week some of our students volunteered to help. If you were on the westside of town on April 13th, you may have seen our CLB 5/6 class in their yellow vests participating. The weather was good for our students as they spent a few hours working together to clean up the neighborhood.
