Classes make their own Inuksuk as they learn about Indigenous culture.

Inuksuk are traditional stone structures used by the Inuit to navigate the landscape. These statues, often built in various shapes and sizes, serve as important landmarks and signify directions or messages. In many educational settings, including English classes, there is a growing emphasis on studying local Indigenous history, as it helps students appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the area.

After engaging with the history and significance of the Inuit, this class took an initiative to create their own Inuksuk statues using river rocks. This hands-on activity not only allowed students to express their understanding of Inuit culture but also fostered a deeper connection to the land and its history. By constructing these statues, students learned the importance of representation and respect for Indigenous traditions, enhancing their appreciation for cultural diversity.

Student Testimonies

YUKI- LINC Client

“Before I felt like I had lost myself once I moved to Canada. But I was very encouraged through the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) classes. All the staff here at Archway are very positive. I used to feel dead before and now I feel revived. My turning point was to join LINC program and learned about everything that was available. Whatever we (classmates) needed, community services could provide for us. Now we are ready to leave community services and get out into the community and start our new careers and the new page of our lives.”
